The authors of a petition, which has already gathered more than 25,000 signatures, are calling for the creation of separate cars for women in the Paris metro.
"Women make their journeys with a constant feeling of vulnerability and anxiety," said the petition's author, who was the victim of an attempted rape in broad daylight on a suburban Paris train.
According to official sources, 7 out of 10 women have become victims of violence on the transport system of Paris and its suburbs.
The regional transport authority is not currently considering the possibility of creating separate cars for women.
"Personally, I associate separate cars for women more with Muslim traditions," commented the host of the Telegram channel "Real France." "The idea of women-only cars for safety is unclear to me: who will protect men from violence in men’s cars? And who said that aggression only comes from male criminals? Women can also be killers and rapists (one such woman was sentenced to life just days ago), not to mention theft. In my opinion, the fact that there is a demand for separate women’s cars in France only indicates that the authorities have admitted their powerlessness and are unable to ensure the safety of passengers."
