WP: In Singapore, they will whip for internet fraud.

The Parliament of Singapore has amended the criminal legislation, introducing whipping as a punishment for internet fraudsters. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP).

It is noted that in the first half of 2025 alone, tens of thousands of fraud cases were registered, resulting in losses of nearly $385 million.

Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Sim Ann stated that offenders will receive "at least six strokes of the cane." According to local media, the mandatory punishment may increase to 24 strokes.

According to WP, members and recruiters of fraudulent syndicates will also fall under the law and will be subjected to caning if found guilty. For punishment, flexible rods typically ranging from 60 to 120 cm in length and 4 to 13 mm in thickness, made of rattan or bamboo, are used after a mandatory medical examination. Such punishment will not be applied to girls, women, and men over 50 years old.

Earlier in Singapore, an unusual application for drones was found, and a technology for window washing using them was developed. According to Singaporean politician San Xuelin, traditionally, windows are washed by workers on scaffolding, which poses risks to people. Singapore has begun testing drones for washing the facades of high-rise buildings.

"This process involves various stages related to the use of water pressure and solvents," Xuelin clarified. She added that before implementing the technology, the authorities will study feedback from residents and calculate the costs.
