 
                                                    In Kalngale, Adazi region, a previously convicted man has been detained for attempting to rape a young woman and a pensioner, the State Police reported to the LETA agency.
On October 29, the State Police received information that in Kalngale (Adazi region) on a pedestrian path near the sea, an unidentified individual attempted to rape a woman born in 1996, after which he took her mobile phone and fled the scene.
Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered that another woman, born in 1939, was also attacked nearby, and her mobile phone was also taken.
The forces of the Northern Division of the Prigorod Police of the Riga region and the Municipal Police of the Adazi region were immediately involved in the search for the criminal. A dog handler from the State Police was also working at the scene with a service dog.
During the search operations, officers from the Municipal Police of the Adazi region noticed a man matching the description of the attacker in the vicinity a few hours later and detained him.
The detained individual, born in 1963, has a previous conviction for similar crimes. Officers from the Northern Division of the Prigorod Police searched the area and found both stolen phones in the forest.
Two criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident — for attempted rape and for theft in a small amount. The law provides for imprisonment for a term of four to ten years for rape or attempted rape.
The State Police have suspicions that the detained individual may be involved in other crimes against individuals. The police urge residents to review the photographs of the man and to contact them if anyone may have been a victim of his possible criminal actions.
