A robber threatened a shop assistant with a knife - the incident in the center of Riga was reminiscent of the 90s

Over the past weekend, two stores in Riga were brutally robbed. According to the State Police, the crimes were committed by the same person - a man born in 1991, who stole nearly 450 euros in total. On October 30, the court chose a preventive measure for him - arrest.

The first attack occurred on October 25 on Miera Street. A man entered the retail premises, pressed a knife to the shop assistant's throat, threatening to kill her, restricted her freedom of movement, and demanded that she open the cash register. The frightened woman complied, and the criminal stole about 230 euros.

The next day, on October 26, a similar theft occurred on Matisa Street. The man again entered the store, locked the door, threatened the shop assistant with a knife, and took about 200 euros from the cash register.

During the investigation, it was revealed that both thefts were committed by the same person. After extensive search efforts, the police managed to apprehend the suspect. To complicate identification, after being placed on the wanted list, he changed his appearance - shaved his beard and got a haircut.

The detained individual had previously been prosecuted for robbery. Now, two criminal proceedings have been initiated against him under the first part of Article 176 of the Criminal Law - for robbery involving violence or the threat of violence. Such a crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, or restriction of freedom, community service, probation supervision, or a monetary fine, with or without confiscation of property.
