The minister, as an official, does not have the authority to dispose of procedural actions or supervise the criminal process, stated Minister of the Interior Richard Kozlovskis in response to the Saeima commission on requests, which on Wednesday reviewed the request from deputies of the 'Latvia First' party regarding the accountability of the State Police in connection with the killing of three dogs in the Brunava parish of Bauska municipality.

Kozlovskis noted that, according to the Criminal Procedure Law, the Minister of the Interior does not have the right to issue orders or supervise the criminal process. The law states that an official authorized to conduct a criminal process is obliged to initiate it when there are grounds.

In this case, the police were immediately dispatched to the scene, conducted an inspection, and collected evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and necessary measures are being taken. At the same time, an internal investigation has been initiated to assess the behavior of police officers, the minister's response states.

According to Kozlovskis, there are no grounds to believe that the police acted late or improperly. Public concern is understandable, but the investigation is not conducted publicly. As soon as it becomes possible, the police will provide more information about the progress of the investigation and the decisions made, the minister promised.

He expressed confidence that the police would ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation of the incident.
