At night, residents of the building on Dzelzavas Street in Riga witnessed bold activity under their windows. They observed the actions of the thief — from the moment he broke into the car to his detention by the police called by the residents. It turned out that the perpetrator, searching for valuable items, even managed to doze off, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

The loud sound of a car alarm and flashing lights attracted the attention of many residents of a five-story building on Dzelzavas Street. Under the cover of night, a thief broke into one of the parked cars in the yard.

"At five in the morning, I heard something screaming. There was some confusion," said a resident of the building.

As locals noted, this car usually does not stay in the yard and does not belong to anyone living nearby. It was a van, presumably belonging to construction workers. It was into this vehicle that the perpetrator entered.

The first to arrive at the scene were officers of the Riga Municipal Police. Shining a light into the car windows, they confirmed that a person was still inside.

After that, the man was handed over to the State Police.

"One person has been detained in a state of obvious severe intoxication. A criminal case has been initiated for intentional property damage and attempted theft. According to initial information, nothing was stolen from the car," said State Police representative Liga Dziluma.

One of the residents noted that thieves have changed their habits lately, so it is always important to ensure that no valuable items are left in the car.
