Due to a gas leak, children from the kindergarten "Madariņa" were evacuated today in Riga, reported the Riga City Council.
As explained by the local government, a week ago there was a fire in the boiler room of the kindergarten on Dagmara Street - the heating boiler's electronics caught fire.
The company "Gaso" completed repairs on the heating system yesterday and resumed heat supply; however, today a gas leak was discovered in the basement. Gas supply was immediately halted, and children and staff were evacuated, with the threat eliminated.
Representatives from "Gaso" and the State Fire and Rescue Service are working at the scene.
Preliminary data indicates that the leak occurred due to a poorly installed gas meter.
According to the information available to the local government, staff and children are allowed to return to the kindergarten premises, but most of the children have already been picked up by their parents.
