Hot weather in France this week will persist and intensify, with temperatures expected to reach up to 45°C in some areas of the country, reports Le Figaro.

The week of June 22 will be marked by a peak of hot weather in France, which has been ongoing for several days. Almost the entire territory of the country will suffer from extremely high temperatures.

On Monday, some areas in the southeast are expected to reach up to 44°C, and on Tuesday – up to 45°C during the hottest part of the day. This is 22 degrees above seasonal norms.

In the capital, Paris, temperatures are expected to reach up to 39°C at the beginning of the week, and 41°C on Wednesday and Thursday. Paris is among the cities where the heat may be most felt – due to dense construction, which will contribute to rapid heating and retention of heat, compared to less urbanized green areas.

The night from Sunday to Monday, according to preliminary estimates, became the hottest night in France since 1945. The average nighttime temperature across the country was 21.96°C, with some areas experiencing temperatures above 26°C at night.

In the southern department of Gironde, three elderly deaths were reported on June 21, which are linked to the effects of the hot weather.

Against the backdrop of the hot weather, regional head Valérie Pécresse announced that an additional one million euros will be allocated from the budget so that high schools can quickly purchase fans and air conditioners – to alleviate the suffering of high school students during the critical exam period.

President Emmanuel Macron plans to convene a special ministerial working group to discuss responses to the challenges posed by the abnormal heat.
