The Russian frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" fired warning shots after approaching a yacht flying the British flag in the English Channel, reports The Telegraph and Sky News.
According to The Telegraph, a ship from the Russian Black Sea Fleet has been in British waters in recent weeks, including escorting tankers from a shadow fleet.
Sky News reports that after the incident, British and French ships were put on combat readiness, and the incident occurred after the British fleet inspected the sanctioned tanker "Smirtos."
Russian Version: The crew of the "Admiral Grigorovich" in the English Channel spotted the yacht Bright Future flying the British flag, which was on a dangerous course towards them, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
The crew made several attempts to establish communication with the yacht under the British flag, but there was no response, the ministry added.
"To attract the attention of the yacht's crew, signal flares were launched and sound signals were given. Despite these measures, the vessel continued its dangerous approach.
After reducing the distance to 150 meters, the commander of the frigate decided to conduct preemptive fire at the course of the vessel using small arms. After that, the yacht under the British flag immediately changed course and continued to move away from the Russian warship."
