The summer season has led to an increase in queues at the border crossing in Narva, through which many continue to travel to Russia. Starting from mid-June, the crossing point will operate four hours less, which may further increase waiting times.

There is a noticeable increase in the number of people crossing the border at the border crossing between Estonia and Russia in Narva. On regular days, there are about 100 people in line in the morning, but during the summer, this number reaches approximately 200, reports TV3 News.

Despite the recommendations of the Baltic states' authorities to refrain from traveling to Russia and Belarus without extreme necessity, the flow of travelers remains significant. This is especially noticeable in Narva — the largest land crossing point on the Estonian-Russian border.

The situation may worsen in the coming weeks. Starting from mid-June, the Estonian side will reduce the operating hours of the border crossing. Instead of the current schedule until 11:00 PM, the crossing will be open only until 7:00 PM.

Estonian Interior Minister Igor Taro explained this decision as a necessity to redistribute staff to enhance patrolling and perform other security tasks.

The news has caused dissatisfaction among people who regularly cross the border. Many fear that waiting times will increase even further.

Some passengers believe that the problem can be solved by increasing the number of staff at the border crossing. Others complain about the long wait and inconveniences associated with crossing the border.

Member of the Narva City Assembly Mikhail Panshin proposed considering a special procedure for people who travel to Russia for work, study, or to visit relatives. However, the Estonian Ministry of the Interior does not currently support such an idea.

At the same time, authorities warn that those wishing to cross the border should take possible delays into account in advance.

The head of the Narva border crossing, Anti Ensalu, noted that not all travelers will be able to pass control on the same day. According to him, people should think ahead about accommodation options, as waiting outside may take many hours.

The reduced operating hours will be in effect at least until mid-August. However, authorities do not rule out that restrictions may remain even after the summer season ends.

For residents of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia who continue to use this route, this means longer waiting times and the need to plan trips across the Russian-Estonian border more carefully.
