How many days can a fever last during teething in a child

The duration of fever during teething depends on various factors, including the possibility of a viral or bacterial infection joining against the backdrop of a weakened immune system. It is important to be able to distinguish normal manifestations from pathological ones, when, in addition to inflamed gums, the child is troubled by an infection.

The appearance of the first teeth in a baby is a serious test for parents. This process can be accompanied by fussiness, poor sleep, gastrointestinal disturbances, and fever. Although fever does not always occur, it is quite common. The danger lies in the fact that parents, knowing about their child's teething, may not notice the development of an infectious disease.

Signs indicating the emergence of teeth:

* The child has become fussy, pulls their hands to their face, and may scratch their nose or ears.

* The baby has abundant drooling and puts everything they can reach into their mouth.

* The infant sleeps poorly or not at all. If they are breastfed, they constantly ask for the breast; if they are bottle-fed or mixed-fed, they do not let go of the bottle or pacifier.

These signs indicate that teeth are about to emerge. A slight increase in temperature can last from one to 3-4 days if the process is not complicated by a viral or bacterial disease.

Fever during teething: normal and pathological in children and adults

The duration of fever during teething depends on the condition of the baby's gums and which teeth are coming in. A temperature up to 37.5° is observed in almost all children during these times. Usually, fever is noted when canines are erupting. The reasons for the fever can be as follows:

* Inflammatory process in the child's gums.

* Release of biologically active substances that contribute to the softening of the gums, which can sometimes provoke the onset of fever.

Since the baby instinctively puts everything in their mouth, the likelihood of infection is very high. Therefore, if the temperature exceeds 38 degrees, lasts longer than 4 days, and the child is constantly crying or, on the contrary, very lethargic, it is advisable to consult a pediatrician and possibly undergo tests.

Fever during teething can trouble not only infants but also adults. This refers to wisdom teeth. In adults, the bone and gums are less elastic than in children, and the process of eruption can take a month or more. If the pain and discomfort during the growth of the molar are too severe, it is worth consulting a dentist for gum incision and to ease the process.
