U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to appoint his former personal lawyer Todd Blanche as the permanent Attorney General of the country.

Currently, Blanche is serving as the acting head of the Department of Justice following the dismissal of Pam Bondi. According to American media, the reason for her resignation was criticism of her work related to the publication of investigation materials concerning the late criminal Jeffrey Epstein.

After being appointed to the temporary position, Blanche, who previously held one of the senior positions in the department, began overseeing a number of investigations, including cases against alleged political opponents of Trump, among whom is former FBI Director James Comey.

In a video released by Deputy White House Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, Trump stated: "Tomorrow I will direct that he be appointed as the permanent Attorney General." The recording was made during a dinner at the White House.

The formal appointment procedure is expected to be completed soon, after which Blanche may officially lead the U.S. Department of Justice on a permanent basis.
