"They fell literally a few meters from the people next to me," one worker reported.
According to the organizers, no drone fell in the area designated for spectators.
The organizers stated that the cause of the incident was an "unforeseen" change in the frequency controlling the drones. The sabotage version is ruled out. Specialists are currently investigating what exactly happened.
Shows scheduled for today and tomorrow have been temporarily canceled.
The Vivid Sydney Drone Show is part of a three-week winter festival that will run until June 13.
