The expert claims that Russia is still capable of waging war due to its resources.

A quick end to the war in Ukraine should not be expected; the conflict will last a very long time and may turn into an 'endless drone war.' This prediction was made by Russia expert and historian Matthias Uhl, writes Bild.

'At the moment, the war of attrition will continue,' he said.

The expert noted that there are many historical examples where wars dragged on for years despite exhaustion and signs of peace, because both sides believed in an inevitable victory. According to him, in Russia's war in Ukraine, one side may also 'realize too late that the end is near.'

'Currently, there seems to be no effective countermeasures against the overwhelming power of drones. They will first need to be destroyed on the battlefield before another successful offensive can be possible. Due to high costs, only lasers or machine guns will remain viable options,' Uhl said.

The expert claims that Russia is still capable of waging war due to its resources. Although there are economic problems and sanctions, the systemic collapse that the West expected has not occurred.

The expert also believes that in the event of a potential reduction in the number of volunteers lured by large sums of money, Moscow will use other means to recruit personnel for the front. Further partial mobilization or even the transformation of the 'military special operation' into an 'anti-terrorist operation' is possible.

At the same time, in his opinion, Ukraine is at a disadvantage in terms of human resources, and 'the shortage of soldiers, especially infantry, is likely to become a serious problem.'

The expert notes that currently Kyiv lacks personnel for more large-scale offensives, and the country still depends on Western weapons and intelligence.

'It is likely that the situation will escalate even further. The last resort will probably be the mobilization of men aged 18 to 25, who are currently exempt from mandatory military service,' he says.

When Will the War End - Predictions

Some Western observers and military analysts believe that a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine may be close – and the midterm elections in the U.S. could play a key role in ending the war.

Recently, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin also stated that the Russian-Ukrainian war is allegedly nearing completion. However, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, one should not trust Putin's statements about 'peace,' as he too often 'uses deception and maneuvers provoked by internal difficulties.'

At the same time, FT writes that Putin may be considering much broader territorial goals in the war against Ukraine, including potential ambitions regarding Kyiv and Odesa.
