The U.S. approved the sale of systems to Ukraine that enhance the range and accuracy of aerial bombs for $373 million

The U.S. State Department has granted permission for the potential sale to Ukraine of JDAM-ER kits — systems that enhance the range and accuracy of aerial bombs.

The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale to Ukraine of systems that enhance the range and accuracy of aerial bombs worth $373.6 million. This was reported by the State Department's press service on Tuesday, May 5. The deal involves Joint Direct Attack Munitions - Extended Range (JDAM-ER) aerodynamic kits, which are tail attachments for bombs that increase their operational range by 70-80 km.

According to the State Department, Kyiv has requested the sale of 1,532 such kits from Washington. The order will also include equipment for their maintenance, spare and repair parts, software, repair and maintenance services, as well as logistics. The main contractor for the contract will be the American company Boeing, DW reports.

As noted by the American portal Military, the State Department's approval does not yet mean that the weapons will be delivered soon. Ahead are contract signing, production, and only then the transfer of the arms, bb.lv writes. Thus, this is currently just a permission for the deal, not its actual implementation.
