Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation for the first time in more than six months. The conversation took place at the initiative of the Russian side.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed Moscow-Washington relations over the phone for the first time in more than six months. This was reported on Tuesday, May 5, by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the U.S. State Department.

"The heads of the foreign policy agencies conducted a 'check-in' on the current situation in international affairs and Russian-American relations, as well as discussed the schedule of bilateral contacts," the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement said.

According to U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the phone call took place at the initiative of the Russian side. Lavrov and Rubio discussed Russia's war against Ukraine and the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.
