According to the newspaper Bild, the driver was speeding in central Leipzig. At least eight people were injured, the publication reports, citing a police spokesperson. Preliminary police reports indicate that the incident occurred on the shopping street Grimmaische Straße.
The local newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung, citing eyewitnesses, states that the driver "raced at a very high speed." The reasons for the car's collision remain unclear. More than a dozen ambulances and a rescue helicopter are on the scene.
