The Mayon Volcano Erupts in the Philippines

The eruption of Mayon Volcano has begun in Albay province, causing the sky over the region to be covered in thick smoke and ash. The towns of Camalig and Guinobatan have been affected by the ashfall, PHIVOLCS reported.

As reported by bb.lv, this was announced by the local publication GMA News Online.

The eruption of the most active volcano in the Philippines, Mayon, has begun on the island of Luzon. This was reported by local media, including GMA News Online and Bombo Radyo. The sky over Albay province has been shrouded in thick clouds of smoke, and volcanic ash has already covered more than fifty areas, including the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan.

Residents of the province have been urged to exercise caution and temporarily refrain from visiting dangerous zones, especially ravines and riverbeds, where flows of hot gas and debris may form.

Mayon Volcano, which stands nearly two and a half kilometers tall, is known for its fierce temperament: it has erupted more than fifty times over four centuries.
