Two-thirds of Americans are disappointed with Trump's policies amid the war in Iran and rising fuel prices. Due to the president's low ratings, Republicans may lose their majority in Congress, WP writes.

The approval rating of U.S. President Donald Trump has fallen to its lowest level during his two terms in office: 62% of Americans are dissatisfied with his policies, while only 37% support his actions, according to a joint survey by The Washington Post (WP), ABC News, and the Ipsos polling institute. The results of the study were published on Sunday, May 3.

Trump's approval rating on economic issues, which are crucial for his return to the White House in 2024, is declining amid the war in Iran, rising fuel prices, and accelerating inflation. According to the survey, the highest dissatisfaction is with the rising cost of living in the U.S. due to Trump's decisions, with 76% of respondents expressing discontent. 72% are disappointed with his inflation policy, and another 66% do not approve of the war with Iran.

Respondents are most supportive of the current U.S. administration's immigration policy at the border with Mexico, but even here, negative assessments remain predominant (45% approval and 54% disapproval). His ratings on overall immigration management are somewhat worse: 40% approval and 59% disapproval.

Trump's Rating Declines Among Independent Voters

Among Republicans, Trump's support remains stable at 85%, but his rating among so-called independent voters leaning towards the Republican Party has reached a new low of 56%, WP notes. Overall, Trump's support among independent voters, including those leaning towards the Democrats, stands at 25%, according to the survey data.

Due to Trump's low ratings, Republicans may lose their majority in Congress. The president's low approval ratings just months before the U.S. midterm elections pose a serious threat to the preservation of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, as well as jeopardizing their majority in the Senate, WP writes.

As the newspaper notes, Democratic Party supporters are now much more motivated to vote. According to the survey, registered voters prefer Democrats, who lead Republicans by five percentage points.
