Czech Republic Granted Permission for Flight of Man Whose Sky Latvia Closed

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Prague granted permission for the flight of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during his trip to Moscow before May 9, according to the publication Novinky.

Earlier, the media reported that the Czech Republic had prohibited Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico from using Czech airspace for his flight over the country on his way to Moscow, where he is going to celebrate the day of the end of World War II in Europe.

However, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it issued permission for the flight without delay and that the newspaper's assertion is not true.

"The Slovak side submitted a standard request for flight permission, and it was granted without delay," said Adam Čorgo, spokesperson for the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Claims of a 'ban' are false," he added.

According to the spokesperson, the Czech Republic did not join the countries that prohibited Fico from flying over their territory. Such a decision was made by Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland.

Earlier, the media, citing Fico's statement, reported that the head of the Slovak government decided not to participate in the military parade in Moscow on May 9, but did not cancel his trip to Russia. He intends to lay flowers at the Unknown Soldier Memorial located at the walls of the Moscow Kremlin.
