Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi sharply reacted to the statements of the Russian diplomat about the possible use of "all available means" to protect citizens in Transnistria. According to him, such rhetoric is part of a hybrid war and an attempt to destabilize the situation in the country.
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi called such statements part of a hybrid war against the country and urged the diplomat to focus on his work, reports NewsMaker.
The Russian diplomat threatened that Moscow could use "all available means" to protect its citizens in the unrecognized Transnistrian region in the event of a forceful scenario for resolving the conflict.
According to the Moldovan Foreign Minister, such statements are nothing more than an attempt to destabilize the situation within the country.
"These attempts to destabilize the situation are part of the hybrid war mechanism that has been ongoing for several years," he emphasized.
The head of the Foreign Ministry also directly addressed the Russian diplomat, stating that he should "focus on diplomatic activities" rather than making political statements that go beyond his authority.
At the same time, Popșoi reminded that it is Russia that violates the country's sovereignty. He pointed out that Russian troops have been present on Moldovan territory for over 30 years, despite international obligations.
"It is not Moldovan troops that are on the territory of the Russian Federation, but Russian troops that are illegally stationed on the territory of Moldova," the minister stated.
Chișinău insists that it is Moscow that violates the sovereignty of the republic, pointing to the presence of Russian troops on its territory for more than 30 years. The escalation of rhetoric surrounding Transnistria increases tensions in the region, and the further development of the situation will depend on the diplomatic steps of the parties and international reactions, writes bb.lv.
