Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Thursday that Kyiv will request additional information from Washington regarding the ceasefire proposed by the Kremlin on May 9, when Russia celebrates Victory Day, according to LETA citing AFP.
Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a ceasefire in the war with Ukraine during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, coinciding with the celebrations on May 9.
Zelensky announced on social media that he had instructed his team members to gather more detailed information and emphasized that Ukraine is striving for a complete end to the war.
"We will find out what exactly is at stake — whether it is a few hours of security during the parade in Moscow or something more," Zelensky noted.
"Our proposal is a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security for people, and sustainable peace. Ukraine is ready to work towards this in any worthy and effective format," he added.
