After negotiations in Washington, European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis announced that the United States does not intend to extend the exemption from sanctions on Russian oil for a second time, which was previously introduced due to the conflict in the Middle East.
European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, after completing a series of meetings with American officials in Washington, made an important statement. He announced that the U.S. does not intend to extend the exemption from sanctions concerning Russian oil, which was introduced due to the conflict in the Middle East. This was reported by "European Truth," as the commissioner mentioned at a press conference during his visit to the United States.
Dombrovskis emphasized that the issue of anti-Russian sanctions was raised personally by him during a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. According to the commissioner, Bessent made it clear: there will be no further easing of the sanctions regime.
The American minister also explained that Washington took such a step earlier, lifting sanctions solely at the request of several "low-income" countries. Dombrovskis quoted Bessent's words: "I cannot speak on his behalf, but as I clearly understood, this will not happen again in the future, and it was also done because several low-income countries found themselves in an extremely difficult situation."
It is worth recalling that on April 18, the United States had already lifted sanctions for 30 days regarding Russian oil, which at that time was loaded onto tankers and at sea. At the same time, representatives of the American administration have repeatedly stated publicly that they do not plan to extend these exemptions for Russian oil.
