"We Are Facing 1917": Communist Leader Gennady Zyuganov Predicted a New Revolution in Russia This Fall

The speech of the CPRF leader in the State Duma caused a wide resonance. Gennady Zyuganov warned that if urgent financial and economic measures are not taken, then this fall Russia will face what happened in 1917.

Gennady Zyuganov predicted a "fall revolution" in Russia similar to that which occurred in 1917. At a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on April 21, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) mentioned a statement by blogger Victoria Bonya to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In particular, Zyuganov was outraged that all the questions raised by the "lady from Monaco" in her video address had already been raised by his party, but at that time, he said, no one listened.

"She (Bonya) listed all the questions that were raised here, and you heard. And why is there a dirty spot in Anapa, and why was there no timely response to the assistance needed in Dagestan and the Chechen Republic," Zyuganov noted.

On April 14, Bonya recorded an 18-minute address to Putin "on behalf of the people," suggesting that the Russian president does not receive all the information about the situation in the country because he is "feared." Among the most pressing issues from her perspective are the flooding in Dagestan, the killing of animals, internet blockage, rising prices, and the collapse of businesses.

Zyuganov also paid special attention to the dire economic situation in Russia. He stated that the first quarter of 2026 "has plunged to the bottom." According to him, if urgent financial and economic measures are not taken today, then "this fall we will face what happened in 1917," Zyuganov emphasized.

"We have told you ten times – the economy will inevitably collapse. The entire first quarter has plunged to the bottom. If you do not urgently take financial and economic measures and others, then this fall we will face what happened in 1917. We cannot afford to repeat this," stated the unchanging leader of the communists from the podium of the State Duma.

After a wide resonance, changes were made to the transcript of the party leader's speech, clarifying that it referred to the February Revolution. A video recording of the speech was also posted on the website, but its transcript stated: "what happened in February 1917."

In his speech, Zyuganov noted that in the lead-up to the 1917 revolution, the authorities failed to respond in a timely manner to the growing problems in the economy and the army, which led to social tension and an explosion.

The February Revolution of 1917 is referred to as bourgeois-democratic; it led to the overthrow of the monarchy, the establishment of the Provisional Government, and the Councils of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies. The October Revolution of the same year resulted in the overthrow of the Provisional Government, the rise to power of the Bolshevik Party, and the establishment of Soviet power – a completely new form of governance.
