After an IDF soldier damaged the statue of Jesus Christ in southern Lebanon, the Israeli army hastily claimed it had been replaced. However, as reported by Yeni Safak, the restoration was actually carried out by Italian troops.
A shocking incident in southern Lebanon, where an IDF soldier broke the statue of Jesus Christ, sparked a wave of outrage. Shortly after, the Israeli army rushed to announce that it was they who replaced the damaged symbol with a new one. However, these statements turned out to be far from the truth, as reported by the Yeni Safak agency.
In fact, the restoration of the shrine was undertaken by Italian peacekeepers. They took on the mission of returning the statue to its rightful place.
The incident involving the destruction of the statue in the Lebanese village of Debel was captured in photos and caused a wide public outcry. The actions of the Israeli soldier were condemned by IDF command.
Those responsible were punished: 30 days of military arrest and removal from combat duties. At the same time, the IDF claimed that the damaged statue was replaced by their forces "in full coordination with the local community."
However, a few days later, video footage emerged that completely refuted these statements. It clearly shows how the new statue of Jesus Christ was delivered and installed in the Lebanese village.
This important mission was carried out by Italian troops, part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). They were actively assisted by the Vatican ambassador, emphasizing the international nature of the restoration.
