The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, confirmed the European Union's readiness to impose restrictive measures against Georgia. However, according to her, one of the member states is currently obstructing this decision. The statement was made at a press conference after the meeting of foreign ministers, and the transcript is available on the official EU website.

The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, at a press conference following the meeting of foreign ministers, announced the European Union's readiness to impose sanctions against Georgia. However, she emphasized that one of the member states opposes such a move. The transcript of this statement was published on the official EU website.

In response to a journalist's question about the possibility of targeted sanctions against Georgia, Kallas confirmed the existence of "general sentiments" on this issue. She clarified that most countries support such measures.

"The general sentiment is that if we insisted on sanctions, for example, against those who take actions against the opposition or free media, then 26 countries would be in favor, and only one would be against," Kallas stated directly.

Kallas also reported on the EU's intention to adjust its tactics in dealing with Georgia. Brussels plans to actively cooperate with the Georgian people, demonstrating Europe's "goodwill." At the same time, as the head of European diplomacy emphasized, it is necessary to "send very clear signals to the Georgian government that the direction they are choosing does not align with the values that Europe represents."

She added that the European Union will reconsider the issue of imposing sanctions again. This will happen as soon as "new governments gather at the negotiating table."
