April in Latvia turned out to be warmer than normal and with a deficit of precipitation

The average air temperature in the second decade of April in Latvia reached +6.9 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees above normal, according to data compiled by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LCSGM).

The lowest air temperature recorded by the LCSGM observation network was -5.5 degrees on April 11 in Mersrags, while the maximum of +17.9 degrees was recorded on April 15 at the observation station in Jelgava.

The average amount of precipitation in the country in the middle of the month was only 3.2 millimeters, or 26% of the norm. The most precipitation, 21 millimeters, fell in Liepaja, while the least rain was recorded in Dobele, Kolka, Kuldiga, Skulte, Stende, Ventspils, and Vichaki, where the amount of precipitation did not reach 0.1 millimeters.

The dryness and humidity index was the lowest for the month in the Dobele region, and for the three-month period in Jelgava. The highest monthly figure was recorded in Liepaja, while the highest for three months was in the Ludza region. Over the past three months, the weather across the country ranged from moderately dry to extremely dry.

The average relative humidity in the second decade of April was 64% - from 57% in Riga to 73% in Pavilosta. Wind gusts did not exceed 14 meters per second.
