The central military command in Tehran described the seizure of the Iranian-flagged vessel in the Gulf of Oman by U.S. military forces as an 'act of piracy' and a 'violation of the ceasefire.' Earlier, Trump stated that the ship was attempting to circumvent the Hormuz blockade.
Iran called the U.S. attack on a cargo ship flying the flag of the Islamic Republic in the Gulf of Oman a violation of the ceasefire and, according to authorities in Tehran, launched drone strikes against American warships. This was stated by a representative of the country's central military command 'Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya' on the night of Monday, April 20.
'Aggressive America has violated the ceasefire and committed an act of maritime piracy,' the military's statement, quoted by the Iranian state news agency Tasnim, said.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that on Sunday, the U.S. Navy fired upon and seized an Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman that was attempting to circumvent the maritime blockade of the Islamic Republic's ports imposed by Washington.
The seizure of the vessel was also confirmed by the U.S. Central Command in the Middle East (CENTCOM).

Against the backdrop of renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington, the fate of a new round of negotiations previously announced by U.S. President Donald Trump remains unclear, AFP reports. According to Tasnim, Iranian authorities do not plan to participate in negotiations with the U.S. while the American blockade of the country's ports in the Strait of Hormuz continues.
