Shock in Austria: Rat Poison Found in Baby Food Jar of a Well-Known Brand

Last Saturday, April 18, Austrian police made a troubling announcement: deadly rat poison was found in a jar of baby food from the well-known brand HiPP. For safety reasons, more than 1500 supermarkets across the country have already recalled this product from their shelves.

According to Reuters, the Burgenland police have announced a highly alarming incident. A sample of one of the 190-gram jars of baby puree "Carrot and Potato" contained deadly rat poison.

Alarming Details from the Manufacturer

The company HiPP, the producer of the product, immediately responded to the situation. On Saturday, they issued a statement in which they did not rule out the possibility of the toxic substance entering the product and suggested that the jars may have been deliberately tampered with. The brand warns that consuming the contents of these jars poses a deadly threat to infants.

How to Recognize the Danger

The police detailed how to distinguish the poisoned jars. They were noted to have stickers with a red circle located at the bottom. Additionally, the lid may have been already opened, damaged, or completely missing a safety seal, and the puree itself had an unusual, suspicious smell.

International Scale of the Problem

Law enforcement authorities also emphasized that this issue is not limited to Austria alone. Initial laboratory tests of similar batches of baby food seized in neighboring Czech Republic and Slovakia unfortunately also confirmed the presence of the toxic substance.
