Sad news from Lebanon: French peacekeeper killed, three wounded – Macron demands immediate investigation

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed deep sorrow over the death of a French peacekeeper and the injury of three of his comrades in Lebanon, insisting on the immediate search for those responsible.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed great concern over the tragic incident in Lebanon. A French peacekeeper was killed as a result of shelling, which the head of state reported on his account on X, as reported by "European Truth."

Macron specified that the victim was Florian Montorio, who served in the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment from Montauban. In addition to him, three other servicemen sustained injuries of varying severity and were promptly evacuated for medical assistance.

Demand for Justice

"All circumstances suggest that Hezbollah bears responsibility for this shelling. France demands that the Lebanese authorities immediately detain those responsible and fulfill their obligations," stated Emmanuel Macron.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) also issued a statement, calling the incident a deliberate attack. They noted that the attack was carried out by "non-state actors, likely Hezbollah," at the time when peacekeepers were conducting demining operations.

The situation with the wounded is particularly concerning: two of the three injured peacekeepers sustained serious injuries. Their condition requires close attention and intensive treatment.

About the UNIFIL Mission

It is worth recalling that French peacekeepers are part of the UNIFIL mission – the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, which has been operating in the region since 1978. Their presence there is aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

Unfortunately, similar incidents have become more frequent lately. Participants in the peacekeeping mission have repeatedly faced injuries, and, regrettably, tragic fatalities have also been recorded.
