Important Meeting in the Netherlands
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, held a meeting with Ukrainian servicemen in the Netherlands, who are undergoing intensive training on a modern Alkmaar-class mine countermeasure vessel. During the conversation, which included Prime Minister Rob Jetten, the current stages of training and strategic plans for the future were discussed in detail.
A New 'Henichesk' for Ukraine
President Zelensky emphasized that the Netherlands will not only fully train the crew but will also transfer this vital vessel to Ukraine as early as June. The ship will bear the proud name 'Henichesk', honoring the Ukrainian vessel of the same name that heroically fell in battle in June 2022 near the Kinburn Spit.
Strengthening Maritime Borders
According to the head of state, this vessel will be the fifth to join Ukraine's future mine countermeasure fleet and the second generously provided by the Netherlands. Zelensky highlighted the exceptional significance of such comprehensive support for significantly enhancing the country's maritime capabilities. This is a powerful step towards protecting Ukrainian waters.
Expression of Gratitude and Awards
The head of state sincerely thanked the Netherlands for their invaluable assistance, emphasizing that the Ukrainian people deeply appreciate the solidarity and support from the residents of this country. As a token of gratitude, Volodymyr Zelensky also presented well-deserved awards to the Chief of Defense of the Netherlands, Onno Eichelsheim, and the brave Ukrainian servicemen, expressing his deep appreciation for the productive meeting and fruitful cooperation.
