The U.S. has fully withdrawn its troops from Syria, reported the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to LETA citing DW.

Damascus "believes that the decision of the United States to end its military mission in Syria reflects a general understanding that the circumstances that initially necessitated the U.S. military presence in Syria, namely the fight against the 'Islamic State', have significantly changed. Today, the Syrian state is fully capable of independently conducting counter-terrorism efforts, cooperating with the international community," the ministry stated.

Damascus also noted that the transfer of military facilities "was carried out with a high degree of professionalism and full coordination between the governments of Syria and the United States." This "highlights the constructive nature of the relations between Damascus and Washington, which have developed after the historic meeting between President al-Sharaa and President Trump at the White House in November 2025," the statement from the ministry said.

A representative of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Tim Hawkins, confirmed this information. "U.S. forces have completed the transfer of all our main bases in Syria as part of an orderly, conditions-based transition process," Hawkins reported.

The American military "will continue to support counter-terrorism operations conducted by partners, which is crucial for the final defeat of the 'Islamic State' and the strengthening of security in the region," added the CENTCOM representative.

In April 2025, it became known that the U.S. armed forces were closing three of their eight bases in northeastern Syria and reducing their contingent from 2,000 to 1,400 servicemen.

The U.S.-led anti-terror coalition was established in 2014 to eliminate the so-called 'caliphate' proclaimed by the 'Islamic State' in Syria and Iraq. The U.S. armed forces, together with allies, carried out tens of thousands of airstrikes to destroy the 'caliphate' and its leaders. In recent years, U.S. military forces have continued to strike at 'Islamic State' targets as well as militants linked to Iran.
