As a result of an Israeli strike in Lebanon, 13 security personnel were killed

As a result of an Israeli strike on the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh on Friday, 13 personnel from the Lebanese General Security Agency were killed, LETA reported citing AFP.

The strike was carried out just days before Lebanon was set to begin ceasefire negotiations with Israel.

Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported that "enemy aircraft carried out several powerful strikes" on Nabatieh, hitting the office of the General Security Agency near the government headquarters in the city.

"This painful loss only strengthens our resolve to achieve a ceasefire that will protect Lebanon and our people in the south," said Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the international community to "take responsibility for ending the recurring Israeli aggression."

The Israeli army stated that it had "destroyed" more than 4,300 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and killed over 1,400 Hezbollah fighters since the war began between Israel and the Iran-backed Shiite group Hezbollah on March 2.

Hezbollah announced that it conducted dozens of attacks on targets in Israel on Friday, including cross-border rocket barrages in response to the strikes on Nabatieh, as well as a missile strike on a naval base in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, located far from the border with Lebanon.

Israel reported that more than 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon on Friday.
