Chinese President Xi Jinping called for mobilizing the entire society for active participation in afforestation, emphasizing that a healthy ecological environment is accessible to everyone and requires joint efforts to create it, reports Xinhua News Agency.

Xi Jinping, who is also the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made this statement during his participation in a tree-planting event in Beijing.

Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, arrived in the morning at the tree-planting site in the Changping District of Beijing. Xi Jinping waved to the staff and the masses in greeting, then took a shovel to join the event. He planted saplings of several species of trees.

During the tree planting, he asked children about their studies and daily lives, their participation in labor and sports, as well as their involvement in tree-planting activities. He emphasized the importance of setting great goals at a young age, nurturing a love for learning, work, and nature, and aspiring to become pillars of society.

Xi Jinping also interacted with staff and the masses on site. He stated that China has seen a steady increase in both forest area and forest stock, as well as a continuous reduction in the area of land subject to desertification and sandy land. This has made China the country with the largest and fastest growth in greening in the world.

Xi Jinping welcomed the Environmental Protection and Ecology Code adopted in March, noting that it further strengthens the legal foundation for building a 'Beautiful China.'

Afforestation is an important task in building a 'Beautiful China,' Xi Jinping noted, calling for consistent and resolute efforts to implement this initiative.

This year marks the beginning of the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), and it also marks the 45th anniversary of the National Afforestation Movement.

In the new conditions for promoting greening, more attention should be paid to improving quality, developing relevant industries, and ensuring the well-being of the population, as well as ensuring the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, he noted.

Xi Jinping also emphasized the importance of creating favorable conditions for realizing the value of ecological products, coordinating the promotion of greening in both urban and rural areas.
