The Israel Defense Forces announced on Tuesday that it struck a chemical weapons development factory in Iran, LETA reports citing DPA.
The statement said that a "strike was carried out against a research institution that systematically supplied chemical substances to the terrorist regime of Iran."
The Israeli army reported that the facility, owned by the "Tofiq Daru Company," "was disguised as a civilian company," but "in practice supplied the terrorist regime of Iran with chemical substances, including fentanyl, which were used for research and development of chemical weapons."
"Fentanyl is an anesthetic that is considered extremely lethal in high doses," the Israeli army stated. The mentioned company "deliberately and systematically supplied this deadly substance" to the Iranian Organization for Defense Innovations and Research.
This information has not yet been confirmed by independent sources.
It remains unclear whether Iran is indeed working on the development of chemical weapons for military use.
