Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates have agreed on cooperation in the field of security and defense, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday, LETA reports citing INTERFAX-UKRAINA.
“Thank you for the meeting and your willingness to cooperate. We have agreed to collaborate in the field of security and defense. Teams are clarifying the details,” said Zelensky after a meeting in Abu Dhabi with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine is open to joint work that, in the strategic perspective, “will strengthen the protection of our peoples and lives in our countries.”
“Therefore, it is important to utilize the opportunities of both countries to enhance defense, including investments, joint production, and modernization of relevant systems for protecting critical and social infrastructure,” the press service of the President of Ukraine stated.
The leaders discussed the security situation in the UAE and the region, as well as strikes from Iran, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and its impact on the global oil market.
“Ukrainians have developed a corresponding defense system that ensures a significant percentage of interception of enemy drones and missiles. This is the kind of systematic approach and integration of experience that we offer our partners,” said the President of Ukraine.
The day before, Zelensky visited Saudi Arabia, where a document on cooperation in the field of defense was signed.
