French police arrested a man early Saturday morning outside an American bank in Paris who was preparing to detonate a homemade explosive device, officials and sources reported, according to LETA citing AFP.
The incident occurred around 3:30 AM at the 'Bank of America' building in the 8th arrondissement, a few streets away from the Champs-Élysées.
Police arrested a man immediately after he placed a device there, made from five liters of liquid, presumably fuel, and an ignition system, one source reported.
Preliminary estimates indicated that the incendiary component contained 650 grams of explosive powder. The entire device was taken to the forensic laboratory of the Paris police for analysis.
The French anti-terrorist prosecutor's office stated that it immediately took control of the investigation and confirmed that the detained suspect is in custody.
It was also reported that an investigation has been launched regarding the attempted harm using fire or other dangerous means in connection with a terrorist act, as well as for conspiracy to commit a terrorist crime.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised the police's swift actions, considering the current international situation.
