India has approved the purchase of Russian S-400 missile systems. The deal for arms procurement worth 2.38 trillion rupees (25 billion dollars), which also includes additional Russian missile systems, was reported by the Indian Ministry of Defense.
According to Bloomberg, citing an anonymous informed source, the Defense Procurement Council, led by Minister Rajnath Singh, has sanctioned the acquisition of five Russian-made air defense systems for approximately 6.1 billion dollars. At the same time, Deutsche Welle reminds that India already possesses three such systems, which were deployed during a four-day conflict with Pakistan in May 2025. The delivery of two more is expected in the coming months.
Russia remains the largest supplier of military equipment to India. It accounts for more than a third of all arms purchases, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) for 2025.
