Bloomberg: Asian countries' authorities prepare for worst-case scenarios in energy.
Authorities in Asian countries are preparing for the worst-case scenario in the energy sector, which involves prolonged and severe disruptions in hydrocarbon supplies. Bloomberg reported this.
In particular, South Korea has already entered crisis mode, creating an operational economic working group for urgent preparations for adverse developments. The Philippines declared a state of emergency, citing the imminent danger of a critical energy supply shortage. Japan is reviewing its entire supply chain of petroleum products as the likelihood of shortages and their economic consequences increases. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned that the U.S. war with Iran poses unprecedented problems for the country.
The agency emphasized that fuel shortages are already being keenly felt across Asia. Local authorities are reducing workweeks, street lighting is being turned off, and gas stations are being forced to close. For example, in Pakistan, cricket fans were advised to stay home and watch matches on television to conserve fuel. In some areas of Bangladesh, drivers wait for hours to refuel. Lines of cars stretch for miles. Moreover, production has halted at most fertilizer manufacturing plants.
