Billions in Military Aid at Risk

In total, Ukraine requires $52 billion in external assistance this year.

Billions of euros in military aid for Kyiv from Ukraine's allies are at risk, and funds to defend against Russian aggression will only last for two months, Bloomberg reports, citing Ukrainian and foreign officials. According to estimates from Kyiv, $15 billion will be needed in 2026 for the purchase of weapons from the U.S. for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In total, Ukraine requires $52 billion in external assistance this year.

In this context, Deutsche Welle reports that financial support for the country is becoming critically important - however, it is under threat due to a combination of unfavorable factors. In particular, Hungary continues to block the EU loan for Ukraine of €90 billion, demanding urgent repairs to the Druzhba oil pipeline, which supplied oil from Russia to the country. Issues have also arisen with assistance from the IMF - due to the fact that the Verkhovna Rada has not yet adopted the amendments to legislation required by the fund. Additionally, some NATO allies are reluctant to allocate new funding under the U.S. arms procurement program PURL, said Ukraine's representative to the alliance, Olena Hetmanchuk, to Bloomberg.

At the same time, Russian budget revenues have significantly increased due to the ongoing war between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, which has caused a rise in global energy prices. On March 26, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that Moscow has begun selling its oil products either at zero discount or at a premium, thanks to increased demand.
