Trump threatens to 'blow up' the world's largest gas field

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to 'completely blow up' the world's largest gas field, South Pars, if Iran attacks the Qatari liquefied natural gas industry again, LETA reports citing DPA.

The South Pars field, jointly used by Iran and Qatar, is located in the Persian Gulf near the city of Assaluyeh in Bushehr Province. This region is key to Iran's energy sector and accounts for about 70% of the country's domestic gas supply.

Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that Israel bombed "a relatively small part" of the entire gas field on Wednesday without the knowledge of the U.S. or Qatar.

"Unfortunately, Iran was not aware of this (...) and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked part of the Qatari liquefied natural gas facility," Trump wrote.

Trump promised that Israel would not attack South Pars again, "unless Iran makes an unreasonable decision to attack someone completely innocent, in this case, Qatar."

He added that in the event of such an Iranian attack, the U.S. would "completely blow up the South Pars gas field with a force and power that has never been seen or experienced before."

"I do not want to endorse such a level of violence and destruction due to the long-term consequences for Iran's future," Trump continued. "However, if the Qatari liquefied natural gas industry is attacked again, I will not hesitate to do so."

Just minutes before these threats were published, Qatari authorities reported a new Iranian attack on the industrial city of Ras Laffan, where important liquefied natural gas extraction and transportation infrastructure is located.
