Iran has shot down an American F-35 fighter jet for the first time, CNN reports citing sources.
According to the television channel, the aircraft, which was on a combat mission, was shot down over Iran.
A representative of the U.S. Central Command confirmed that the aircraft made an emergency landing at a U.S. base in the Middle East while carrying out a combat task.
The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot's condition is stable. The incident is under investigation.
As noted by CNN, this is the first case since the beginning of the war where Iran has managed to shoot down an American aircraft.
Video footage, which allegedly captures the moment the American F-35 fighter jet was hit by Iranian air defense systems, is being published by Iranian media.
The F-35 is a fifth-generation (latest) fighter jet, with the cost of one such aircraft being around 100 million dollars. Both the U.S. and Israel are using the F-35 in the war against Iran.
