At the beginning of the war, after the supply of the first batch of Iranian strike drones 'Shahed' to Russia, there were contacts at the intelligence level between Ukraine and Iran, during which Tehran promised not to supply such drones to Moscow anymore, but this turned out to be a lie, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, LETA reports citing INTERFAX-UKRAINA.

"The first night of the full-scale war began with missiles. Russia used everything it had — cruise, ballistic, and other missiles (...). Then we found a way to intercept missiles and protect people, the energy system, and other infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime supplied Russia with the first batch of 'Shahed' — a thousand drones," Zelensky noted.

"We contacted the Iranians at the intelligence level. We asked them not to supply weapons to Russia (...). They replied: 'We sold the Russians only one batch of 'Shahed'. This will be 1200 or 1300 drones — and that's it. No other supplies will follow.' But they lied," the President of Ukraine stated.

Zelensky also noted that Iran handed over licenses to Moscow for the production of 'Shahed'.

"They helped Russia build two factories for the production of these drones, initially controlling their use and training the Russians themselves," he added.
