19FortyFive: the Typhon system with Tomahawk will allow strikes against PLAN ships.
American Typhon launchers stationed in northern Philippines will allow strikes against ships of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). The potential tasks of the new weapon were outlined by 19FortyFive analyst Kris Osborn.
The system, which can launch Tomahawk missiles, Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), and SM-6, is capable of hitting maritime targets at ranges of up to 1,900 kilometers (about 1,200 miles).
"China's coastline is approximately 1,800 miles from the Philippines, so Typhon can cover two-thirds of the waters between the two countries with precision anti-ship missiles," Osborn writes.
He reminded that the U.S. Navy has a modification of the Tactical Tomahawk that can strike moving surface targets. The author suggested that the army could use this product in a ground system.
