Switzerland closed its airspace to U.S. military flights directly related to the war in Iran, citing its tradition of neutrality in armed conflicts.
This is stated in a statement from the Swiss government.
As noted by the government, two requests for the overflight of American planes over Switzerland on Sunday were rejected.
Three other flights, including two transport planes, were approved.
The statement notes that further overflights over U.S. territory, the number of which exceeds normal levels, will be prohibited if their purpose is not clearly defined and not related to war.
"The neutrality law prohibits overflights over the territory of the country by parties to a conflict with a military objective," the statement said.
It was also reported that Spain did not allow the U.S. to use its military bases, which are jointly operated by the two countries, for American strikes on Iran. As a result, the American president threatened to completely halt trade with the European country.
