The US embassy in Baghdad was attacked by a drone amid ongoing explosions in cities across the Middle East, with Tehran warning residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to stay away from ports as it strikes global energy supply routes, LETA reports citing AFP.

The US embassy in Iraq has been struck for the second time since February 28, when the US and Israel attacked Iran, which responded with strikes on Gulf countries. The conflict in the Middle East has caused upheaval in the global economy.

According to an AFP journalist, a cloud of black smoke rose over the US diplomatic mission in the Iraqi capital.

Waves of drone attacks, rockets, and airstrikes have caused millions of people in the region to be displaced and reportedly claimed more than 1,200 lives in Iran.

Thick black plumes of smoke were visible from Fujairah, where a major UAE port and oil storage and export terminal are located. Shortly before, the Iranian army warned the civilian population of the UAE to avoid port areas that are under drone and rocket attacks.

Despite the superior firepower of the US and Israel, Iran appears determined to continue fighting, carrying out missile and drone attacks on at least ten neighboring countries and effectively blocking the Strait of Hormuz for maritime shipping.

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that US armed forces struck the island of Kharg — Iran's largest oil export center — and "completely destroyed" military targets while sparing energy infrastructure.

Iranian media confirmed that the oil infrastructure on the island was not damaged.

Trump also stated that the US Navy would "very soon" begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz to restore oil exports.

Since the start of the attacks, 13 American servicemen have been killed.
