TWZ: The U.S. Air Force dropped a GBU-57 bunker buster bomb on a nuclear facility in Iran.
The U.S. Air Force dropped a GBU-57 bunker buster bomb on a nuclear facility in the Iranian military complex of Parchin, according to TWZ.
The publication noted new satellite images of the Taleghan 2 facility, located 32 kilometers southeast of Tehran. In the photographs examined by TWZ, three craters — large holes indicating a recent strike — appeared on the concrete sarcophagus covering the nuclear facility. The publication points out that Taleghan 2 "was recently encased in a concrete shell and then buried under earth a few months before the current conflict, which may have created the need to use munitions capable of penetrating deep into the facility to have a better chance of destroying it."
TWZ speculates that, given the nature of the damage, the American side used GBU-57 bunker buster bombs, carried by B-2 strategic bombers, for the strike on Taleghan 2.
The publication reminds that the Taleghan 2 facility is associated with both the Israeli and American sides in relation to the Iranian nuclear weapons program. According to Israeli and U.S. intelligence, explosives were allegedly tested at the facility to ensure the detonation of a nuclear device.
In September, the portal reported that the U.S. Air Force had contracted for the supply of prototypes to replace the GBU-57 bombs used in the summer campaign to strike targets in Iran.
In June, The National Interest magazine claimed that after the strikes on Iran carried out during last year's Midnight Hammer operation, the U.S. might have had only six GBU-57 bunker buster bombs left, also known as Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP), which is insufficient for potential future military campaigns, particularly against China or Russia.
