Iran is likely to withstand the conflict, and the US will ultimately have to leave the Middle East region. This opinion was expressed by former Pentagon advisor Douglas McGregor during a broadcast on the YouTube channel of Professor Glenn Diesen from the University of Southeast Norway.

“We are at the beginning of, essentially, a long regional war. (...) The whole world is now focused on this war. (...) The dollar is losing speed and altitude. From an economic point of view, this is a disaster. From a financial perspective — for the US, I think this is a calamity,” said the expert.

At the same time, a former advisor to the Pentagon chief suggested that the Gulf states would oppose the US, resulting in Americans being forced to leave the region.

“I think Iran will survive. (...) So we are in a real deadlock. I think ultimately we will just be pushed out of the region. (...) I think we will have to leave. I don’t think anyone living in the Gulf wants us to be anywhere near their ports, airports, or anything else,” McGregor stated, noting that for the US this conflict is turning into an impending catastrophe.
