Merkel Calls on the EU for Direct Dialogue with Russia 0 12

The European Union (EU) must become more independent in global politics and establish direct dialogue with Russia. This was stated by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the traditional Matthiae-Mahl reception at Hamburg City Hall, as reported by the DPA agency.

"Europe must take its fate into its own hands more than ever," Merkel said.

The former chancellor noted that Europe should achieve independence from the United States and actively use diplomacy to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Merkel urged the EU to act "as a military supporter of Ukraine."
