The USA Strikes a Base with Russian Submarines in Iran

USNI News: The USA struck a base with Iranian submarines.

The United States Armed Forces (USAF) struck a base housing Iranian submarines of the Varshavyanka class (NATO designation - Kilo). This was reported by the specialized resource USNI News citing the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces.

"Strikes were carried out against a small submarine fleet of Iran, consisting of numerous small submarines and several Kilo-class submarines of Russian manufacture," the publication states.

USNI News was unable to assess the extent of the damage inflicted on the Iranian submarine fleet.

In February, Maya Carlin, a columnist for the American magazine 19FortyFive, noted that Iranian submarines of the Varshavyanka class pose a threat to the U.S. Navy.

According to Carlin, the Iranian side possesses three diesel-electric submarines of the Tareq class (modernized submarines of the Varshavyanka class), two Fateh-class submarines, and several Ghadir-class mini-submarines. The author describes the Tareq-class submarines as the largest and most advanced type of Iranian submarines. The submarines are 74 meters long, can carry 18 torpedoes, and can remain underwater for several days.
